My name is Amanda Elise Love and  I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 9 years ago which influenced my decision to enter the field of nutrition and now I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist who works with those who are suffering from fibromyalgia.  

  In talking with you I know that you are all stressed out during this crazy time . So I thought this would be the perfect time to do this topic.This podcast episode is perfect for any time but especially now.  I have two suggestions for you  so please try at least one this week. 

The one  thing we all  experience in life is stress !!  It is absolutely unavoidable. 

So what actually is stress ? Stress is any reaction to a physical , mental , social or emotional stimulus that requires a response to the way we perform , think or feel. 

For example, changing  either good or bad is stressful. Worry alone is stressful and even poor sleep is stressful.   

However, I think that we all know what causes stress so the question is how do all of us reduce it  ? 

For those of you with fibromyalgia you already have fatigue , chronic headaches, insomnia , intestinal disturbances , memory loss and extreme pain and so on. 

  Then if you add on any  more stress, it creates a breeding ground for other illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases , cancer , endocrine and metabolic disease , skin disorders and infectious ailments of all kind’s. 

  Furthermore , stress triggers the release of  cortisone and cortisol . These hormones have an effect on the function of the white blood cells which in turn affects the strength of the immune system. By the way your cortisol levels can be measured in your blood work. Regardless ,we all need to lower our stress levels any way we can. 

We need to lower it because almost all body functions and organs react to stress . Stress produces many changes that include increased blood pressure, increased secretion of adrenaline  and increased tension in the muscles . Digestion slows or stops, fats and sugars are released from stores in the body,cholesterol levels rise and the composition of the blood changes slightly making it more prone to clotting . 

Here is a recommendation for overall better health, and stress reduction, 

Do the following several times a day . Take a deep breath through your nose and hold it for 8 to 10 seconds . Then slowly blow it out through your mouth. Repeat this three to five times a day. This action will flood all body cells with oxygen and will lower stress .  This exercise gives you a longer life if done faithfully.

Become Aware of Your Thoughts 

Sit down and close your eyes “ See “ what passes through your mind. These can be images , concerns , musical notes , fears etc. Are you aware of what you are thinking ? Is your mind churning with worry about your family, your health or your financias ?  If so , you are probably overwhelmed and anxious about your life . These thinking patterns produce much of our stress . Scientists however have discovered that becoming aware of these negative patterns helps to reduce the occurrences of these negative thoughts.

 So , when you awake each morning don’t let your mind wander off to whatever you are anxious about . Instead , the very first thing you think about is how strong you are and how much power you have . This new day may be challenging but you do have the ability to conquer any distressing events  that takes away from thinking that : “I can’t do this “and say to yourself “I will not dwell on these negative thoughts or ideas because I can change my thinking because it is necessary to create a new and better day.

Remember ,  you have the key to the power that is waiting to be used. 

So now I hope you establish this new routine. Each morning when you awake bring to mind three things that you are grateful for. Then each evening think of three things that you are able to give thanks for. Put reminders on your phone or sticky notes around your home . 

If you do this every morning and evening it will change your life.
