I know you are very concerned about the coronavirus and keeping your family safe.

Some of you are worried that the virus may be more dangerous if you have fibromyalgia and if it is, what should you do about it? So what are the special implications of the coronavirus on people with CFS and fibromyalgia?

You may feel even more miserable if you have come down with a virus and it may take longer to go away but it is not going to cause permanent harm to you.

I have a question from Becki B. She asks if there are any special diet tips to help her fight the coronavirus virus.  The most important thing we can do is to keep our immune system strong by observing appropriate food choices.  Eating healthful foods reduces your vulnerability to becoming ill, so how do we do this?

“This means consuming as much “clean” foods as possible while eliminating as many processed foods as you can. Processed foods are those that contain chemical preservatives and additives to enhance the taste and lengthen shelf life.  Clean eating means consuming a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables along with whole grains and lean protein such as chicken and ground turkey. Make sure your meat is free of antibiotics. You can include nuts, beans, eggs, and seeds.

By the way, cook with garlic not only because it tastes great because it contains compounds that boost your body’s disease-fighting response when you’re hit with a virus

Now a word about dairy.  Dairy food increases and thickens the mucus in your upper respiratory tract so now is the time to start trying something different such as almond milk. These kinds of milk are different in taste and texture so try a variety. Also, avoid as much sugar as possible as these are empty calories and it disrupts sleep.

Furthermore,  I can not overemphasize the importance of increasing your water intake. You need to keep the mucous membranes moisturized so to make this easier to remember, place a glass of filtered water in several rooms so when you walk by you can take a few steps. Remember, out of sight is out of mind so keep water in your sight.

Lastly, avoid caffeine. If you are a coffee drinker and would like to consume less there is a tea carried by sprouts that are called -Dandelion Dark Roast Organic tea which is naturally caffeine-free and it tastes like coffee!!!

Now let’s talk about vitamins as this will boost your immune system.

Vitamin A plus carotenoid complex (betatene)  – 15,00 IU daily

It helps heal inflamed mucous membranes and strengthens the immune system.

The carotenoid complex is an antioxidant and precursor of vitamin A . Take as directed on the bottle.

Vitamin C  with bioflavonoids -5,000 -20,000 mg daily in divided doses.

Vitamin D- most people are low in this vitamin. This vitamin reduces inflammation and aids in the absorption of calcium.

Zinc lozenges –  have these lozenges on hand and at the very first sign of a symptom start taking. They are extremely helpful because they boost the immune system. Take 1 15mg lozenge every 3 waking hours for 3 days then 1 lozenge every 4 hours for 1 week.  Do not exceed a total of 100 mg daily. Avoid lozenges containing citric acid, sorbitol or mannitol. These ingredients inhibit absorption.

Here are a few more tips to get you through this time.

As far as hand sanitizers go.

Purchase products such as Germ-X or Purell. Whatever you buy, make sure that it has at least 60 percent alcohol in it otherwise it will not kill the virus.

Here is a tip about masks.

Masks do not prevent you from inhaling the virus as the virus is too small to be filtered by it. What the mask does is keep you from putting your fingers to your mouth and face which helps you from spreading the virus if you are already infected. Keep in mind that you are not likely to breathe in the virus unless somebody who has it is within 6 feet of you and coughs in your direction.

Also when someone with coronavirus coughs into their hands and then touches something, for instance, a doorknob or handrail, the virus can live on that object for about a week. If you touch that object, it can transfer to your hands and from there onto your face.

If and when you go out when you return to put a few squirts of colloidal silver nose spray into each nostril. This tends to kill most viruses. It also keeps them from attaching to your nasal tissues.

One last point, come up with something to look forward to for you and your family. Even small activities can create HOPE which springs eternal and which is needed by all of us right now !!

In most people, the virus is likely to be no worse than getting any other cold or flu but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure !!
